Therapy/Class: Antibiotic + Corticosteroid
Mechanism of Action:
Dexamethasone: A highly efficacious, long-acting synthetic glucocorticoid that rapidly permeates the corneal epithelium to suppress cellular exudation, capillary permeability, and fibroblastic proliferation. It achieves potent suppression of the immune response by inhibiting the transcription of pro-inflammatory genes.
Polymyxin B: A bactericidal cyclic lipopeptide that targets and disrupts the outer cell membrane of Gram-negative bacilli. It binds to lipopolysaccharides, severely altering membrane permeability and causing osmotic lysis.
Chloramphenicol: A highly lipophilic, bacteriostatic agent that diffuses rapidly across ocular tissues, binding reversibly to the 50S ribosomal subunit to interrupt peptidyl transferase activity and block bacterial protein synthesis.
