Therapy/Class: Anti-Glaucoma
Mechanism of Action:
Brimonidine Tartrate: A highly selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist. It lowers intraocular pressure through a dual mechanism: actively suppressing aqueous humor production from the ciliary body and enhancing uveoscleral outflow pathways.
Brinzolamide: A specific, reversible, non-competitive inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II (CA-II) in the ciliary epithelium. By slowing the formation of bicarbonate ions, it reduces sodium and fluid transport, directly inhibiting aqueous humor production.
