Therapy/Class: Antibiotic + NSAID
Mechanism of Action:
Bromfenac: A highly potent, topically active nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that halts the cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymatic pathways. The addition of a bromine atom enhances ocular tissue penetration (aqueous humor and target ciliary body) to effectively block prostaglandin biosynthesis, preventing prostaglandin-mediated miosis, hyperalgesia, and blood-aqueous barrier breakdown.
Moxifloxacin: An 8-methoxy advanced generation fluoroquinolone that optimally inhibits both Topoisomerase II and Topoisomerase IV. The methoxy group at the C-8 position minimizes the selection of resistant mutants and broadens coverage against atypical, Gram-positive, and Gram-negative organisms in ocular infections.
