Therapy/Class: Antibiotic + Corticosteroid
Mechanism of Action:
Moxifloxacin: An 8-methoxy advanced generation fluoroquinolone that optimally inhibits both Topoisomerase II and Topoisomerase IV. The methoxy group at the C-8 position minimizes the selection of resistant mutants and broadens coverage against atypical, Gram-positive, and Gram-negative organisms in ocular infections.
Loteprednol Etabonate: A retrometabolic, ester-based ‘soft’ corticosteroid structurally designed to provide potent localized immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory effects, followed by predictable, rapid de-esterification into inactive carboxylic acid metabolites. This mechanism dramatically mitigates the propensity for steroid-induced intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation.
