Therapy/Class: Anti-Glaucoma
Mechanism of Action:
Timolol Maleate: A non-selective beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptor antagonist lacking significant intrinsic sympathomimetic or membrane-stabilizing activity. It reliably decreases intraocular pressure by fundamentally reducing aqueous humor synthesis in the ciliary processes.
Brinzolamide: A specific, reversible, non-competitive inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II (CA-II) in the ciliary epithelium. By slowing the formation of bicarbonate ions, it reduces sodium and fluid transport, directly inhibiting aqueous humor production.
