Therapy/Class: Anti-Glaucoma
Mechanism of Action:
Timolol Maleate: A non-selective beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptor antagonist lacking significant intrinsic sympathomimetic or membrane-stabilizing activity. It reliably decreases intraocular pressure by fundamentally reducing aqueous humor synthesis in the ciliary processes.
Latanoprost: An isopropyl ester prodrug of a prostaglandin F2α analog. Upon corneal hydrolysis to the active acid, it acts as a highly selective FP receptor agonist, reducing IOP primarily by increasing the matrix metalloproteinase-mediated uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor.
