Therapy/Class: Anti-Glaucoma
Mechanism of Action:
Timolol Maleate: A non-selective beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptor antagonist lacking significant intrinsic sympathomimetic or membrane-stabilizing activity. It reliably decreases intraocular pressure by fundamentally reducing aqueous humor synthesis in the ciliary processes.
Travoprost: A highly potent, full agonist at the prostaglandin FP receptor. Once cleaved to its active free acid form, it actively upregulates matrix metalloproteinases in the ciliary muscle, significantly expanding uveoscleral extracellular spaces to maximize aqueous outflow.
